Schwerin (dpa / mv) - According to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Minister of Social Affairs Stefanie Drese (SPD), the planned new infection protection law and increasing numbers of infections require an expansion of the paid days for childhood illnesses.

Instead of 20, 30 days a year should be granted per child and parent and 60 days for single parents, Drese demanded after the draft law was passed in the federal cabinet on Tuesday.

According to the draft, daycare centers and schools will have to close with a seven-day incidence of 200 or more.

The daycare centers could then only offer emergency care.

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania this has so far been the case from an incidence of 150.

The burden for parents increases with increasing numbers of infections, stated Drese.

Therefore, the support offers would have to be expanded.

It was only in January that the entitlement to child sickness benefit per child and parent was doubled to 20 days and for single parents to 40 days.

The entitlement also exists if the child is not sick but is cared for at home due to the pandemic.
