Tehran (AP) - After the alleged Israeli attack on the Iranian nuclear facility in Natans, the leadership in Tehran warns of negative effects on efforts to rescue the international nuclear agreement.

"The incident in Natans makes negotiations more difficult," said Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on Tuesday on the sidelines of talks with Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

During his visit to Iran, Lavrov even warned of the failure of international talks on the future of the 2015 agreement.

At the same time he criticized the Europeans.

The Russian Foreign Minister urged the talks, in which Germany is also involved, to be urgent.

"I think we don't have a lot of time."

Those who wanted to disrupt the negotiations and ultimately bury them knew that there was only a certain time window.

"We condemn all attempts to undermine these important negotiations," he said, according to the Interfax news agency.

At a meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister, Iran's President Hassan Ruhani attached conditions to the success of the negotiations.

"What we want is that everything is as it was after the 2015 agreement and that all sides stick to the agreements (...) - no more, but also no less," he said, according to the presidential office.

After the attack on the nuclear facility on Sunday, Iran spoke of an “act of terrorism” and blamed Israel.

US intelligence services also suspect Israel is behind it.

According to the Iranian nuclear organization AEOI, the incident did not cause any major damage.

"That was just a light breeze that didn't even make us shiver," claimed a spokesman.

The New York Times, however, citing US intelligence officials, reported that Iran's uranium enrichment would be set back by at least nine months.

Russia is one of the countries that are trying to save the agreement that was concluded in 2015 between Iran, the five UN veto powers and Germany in Vienna.

It is designed to ensure that Iran does not acquire the capabilities to build a nuclear bomb.

New negotiations have been in progress since last week.

Lavrov said he hoped the deal would last.

The prerequisite is that the USA «fully implement» it.

In addition, all sanctions would have to be lifted.

Washington unilaterally withdrew from the Vienna Agreement in 2018.

In response to punitive measures, Iran began to exceed agreed limits on uranium production.

The ongoing nuclear talks are about the conditions for a return to the deal.

However, since the new US President Joe Biden does not want to lift the sanctions in the short term, the leadership in Tehran is orienting itself more towards China and Russia.

It was only on Monday that the EU imposed tougher sanctions against Iran for violating fundamental human rights.

This issue raises many questions, Lavrov criticized.

"If there is no coordination in the European Union and the right hand does not know what the left is doing, it is a disaster."

But if this decision was made consciously in the middle of talks about a rescue of the nuclear deal, that was a mistake.

During Lavrov's visit, the two countries agreed to work more closely together.

According to the information, it is about a cooperation in the production of the Russian corona vaccine Sputnik V. Before Russia, Iran had already signed a contract with China at the end of March for a cooperation with a term of 25 years.

This clears the way for China to invest.
