Mainz (dpa / lrs) - He drove under a false flag, so to speak - that has now become the undoing of a man wanted with an international arrest warrant at a traffic control on the A 61.

According to the traffic department in Mainz, the 53-year-old was checked at the wheel of a van on Tuesday near Bornheim.

A police spokesman reported on Wednesday that the man's Czech driver's license felt “strange” for the officers.

A closer inspection then showed that not only the driver's license but also the man's Czech identity card were forged.

In fact, the man comes from Central Asian Kazakhstan and is wanted there by the authorities because he is said to have embezzled 170,000 euros.

The 53-year-old should be brought before the judge on Wednesday.

He is now also accused of falsifying documents, staying illegally and driving without a driver's license.
