Munich (dpa) - In the Bavarian state parliament a petition to obtain additional vaccination doses from the drug ampoules failed on Tuesday.

In the health committee, for example, it was about the fact that the vials from Biontech / Pfizer can be used to extract seven doses, although officially only six doses are contained.

However, the majority of the committee refused to consider the petition, so that the seventh dose should not be prescribed by the state.

Representatives of various parliamentary groups had previously made it clear that it was to be welcomed if the vaccinators took seven instead of six doses from the ampoules.

This is possible because the manufacturer always fills a reserve in the vaccine bottle.

Committee chairman Bernhard Seidenath (CSU) emphasized, however, that it would be disadvantageous if the withdrawal of the seventh dose was prescribed.

Because then the doctor would also have to pull this dose from the ampoules, now it is up to him.

Among other things, the general practitioner Christian Kröner from Neu-Ulm has been campaigning for the additional doses from the medicine vials for weeks.

In his opinion, numerous vaccine doses are unnecessarily thrown away because the vaccination centers only draw six syringes at a time.

He therefore wanted an official release of the additional vaccination doses, so that "for purely legal reasons thousands of vaccine doses are not thrown away unused every day".

The health authorities had made it clear that vaccinators were allowed to remove seven doses from the Biontech ampoules, but that they were responsible for doing so.

In such a case, experts speak of “off-label use”.

The medical professionals then use a preparation outside the area of application approved by the licensing authorities.
