Bonn / Berlin (dpa) - The Museum of the 20th Century in Berlin, which was criticized for high construction costs, is now also in trouble with the Federal Audit Office.

A planned lump-sum risk provisioning would violate budgetary law, according to a report by the auditors published in Bonn on Tuesday.

Funds for risks should only be budgeted if they were derived project-specifically and with a high degree of probability.

The Federal Audit Office sees an overestimation of 10.3 million and wants the budget for the new museum building to be reduced to 354 million euros.

Current calculations by the executing Bundesbau Baden-Württemberg amount to 353 million euros in construction costs.

The federal government approved 364 million euros.

There is also the prospect of financing an index increase and an item also named as risk costs, with the total costs amounting to up to 450 million euros.

Completion of the building is planned for 2026.

The design comes from the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, who also built the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Olympic Stadium in Beijing and the Allianz Arena in Munich.

The Nationalgalerie Berlin is facing a reorganization with seven locations.
