Munich (dpa) - DFB President Fritz Keller has expressed confidence in the struggle for the four planned European Championship games in Munich and demanded a commitment from politicians for the admission of spectators.
"We just need the guarantee or at least the possibility that we will get there with 20 percent viewers if the pandemic situation allows," said the President of the German Football Association (DFB) on Tuesday on ZDF.
Should the continental association UEFA fear that the Allianz Arena will only receive ghost games, Munich could lose its host city status next week.
Keller said he was optimistic that this would not happen.
"Just as politics promises us that we will get more vaccinations and more tests, it should also be possible," he said, referring to the possibility of spectators at the European Championship games in Munich in the summer.
"And then I'm sure that we can keep the four games in Munich."
He now expects "a commitment from the Bavarian state government" and then also a commitment from UEFA.
The three group matches of the national team against France (June 15), Portugal (June 19) and Hungary (June 23) as well as a quarter-finals (July 2) are to be hosted in Munich.
UEFA wants more information on Munich, Rome, Bilbao and Dublin by Monday before the UEFA Executive Committee decides on the number of hosts for the tournament from June 11 to July 11.
Eight cities have already promised games in front of at least some viewers.
