Augsburg (AP) - Football professional Rani Khedira will leave FC Augsburg in the summer.

The defense all-rounder and brother of world champion Sami Khedira agreed with the Bundesliga club not to extend the contract that expires after the season.

The FCA announced on Tuesday.

Where the 27-year-old will play in the future has not been announced.

Most recently, Khedira was a candidate for the league rival Union Berlin;

the capitals did not comment on speculation.

"Rani Khedira has developed well with us over the past four years, has played a lot of games and always gave everything for FCA," said managing director Stefan Reuter about the professional who came to Swabia from RB Leipzig in 2017.

In recent months, however, it has become apparent that the players and the club want to separate.

"That is also part of football," said Reuter.

The former young international player played 116 Bundesliga games for Augsburg in just under four seasons.

Before that, he had also played for VfB Stuttgart and Leipzig.

At FCA he was and is a regular player in the defensive midfield or the defensive chain.

«I was able to develop into a real Bundesliga player here.

That is why I will always have fond memories of the four years, "said Khedira." But I have found that now is the right time for me to start a new chapter in my sporting career. "
