Palma (dpa) - The Easter “rush” of around 40,000 visitors from Germany has not affected the comparatively very good Corona situation on Mallorca and the other Balearic Islands for the time being.

The number of infections is still relatively low, the health authorities announced on Tuesday in Palma.

The Corona traffic light, which is created daily by the respected Balearic economic circle, including all official data, meanwhile pointed to green.

The location was "excellent," it said.

However, a trip to the Germans' favorite island does not remain completely risk-free.

In the quarantine hotel not far from the Mallorca capital Palma, 27 vacationers from Germany are currently accommodated, as the authorities announced on Monday evening.

Visitors who tested positive on the island complete the required isolation, which is at least ten days, alone or together with their respective travel companions.

How many of the 27 are actually infected was not known.

Within 24 hours, 38 new infections with the coronavirus and only one death were recorded in the Balearic Islands.

There were six fewer new infections on Tuesday than the day before.

The Spanish Mediterranean region temporarily had the highest corona numbers in all of Spain in winter.

The daily high registered on January 4, at 1865, was almost 50 times as high as the number registered on Tuesday.

The regional authorities did not disclose the so-called seven-day incidence, the number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days.

According to the Spanish Ministry of Health, this value was 28.77 on Monday evening in the Balearic Islands - and thus significantly lower than in all German federal states.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, Schleswig-Holstein has the best position in Germany with 71, Thuringia the worst with 235.

Regardless of the relaxed situation, the authorities do not want to jeopardize the successes by acting carelessly.

Regional President Francina Armengol continues to urge caution.

On Tuesday, the socialist in the regional parliament rejected the criticism of the opposition and restaurateurs of the still relatively strict restrictions.

"There will continue to be only slow easing," she emphasized.

The interiors of cafés and restaurants - unlike in Madrid, for example - remain closed until further notice, outside guests are only allowed to be entertained until 5 p.m.

Armengol: «It is no coincidence that the Balearic Islands are the Spanish region with the second lowest incidence.

It is no accident that our pandemic-related death rate is the lowest in Europe.

It is no coincidence that we have the lowest occupancy rates in the intensive care units. "
