April 13, 2021 The World Health Organization has called for a halt to the sale of live wild mammals in food markets to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. "Animals, especially wild animals, are the source of more than 70% of all emerging infectious diseases in humans, many of which are caused by new viruses."
"Wild mammals, in particular, pose a risk for the emergence of new diseases," reads the WHO statement.
Transmission of the Covid -19 virus to humans through wild animals is one of the theories favored by the organization's experts.
