Turkey and Libya signed memoranda of understanding today, Monday, in several fields, at a time when Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed his support for the sovereignty of the Libyan National Unity Government over the rest of the country, after the first meeting of the high-level strategic cooperation council between the two countries was held in the presidential complex in the Turkish capital, Ankara.

The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding to establish 3 electrical stations in Libya, a memorandum of understanding on building Tripoli airport, in addition to a memorandum of understanding to build a new shopping center in Tripoli and a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation in the media field.

Today, the first meeting of the Strategic Cooperation Council was held under the chairmanship of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the head of the Libyan National Unity Government, Abd al-Hamid al-Dabaiba.

During the meeting, they discussed steps that would further enhance cooperation between Turkey and Libya, and exchanged views on regional and international developments.

A Libyan government delegation headed by Dabaiba, comprising 14 ministers and Chief of Staff Mohamed Al-Haddad, arrived in Ankara on Dabaiba's first visit to Turkey, after assuming his duties on March 16 to lead Libya to general elections late this year.

Erdogan said - in a press conference with Dabaiba - that our priority from now on is to extend the authority and sovereignty of the national unity government in Libya to the rest of the country.

Erdogan called on the international community to provide sincere support to Libya to organize the elections as scheduled.

He expressed his hope that the stage of exploiting the conflict would end to achieve gains that contradict the interests of the Libyans by supporting illegal parties, as he put it.

On the other hand, Erdogan pointed out that Turkey will deliver 150,000 doses of the Corona vaccine to Libya, starting tomorrow, Tuesday.
