Duisburg (dpa / lnw) - The long-time Duisburg port boss Erich Staake (67) has received a sharp reprimand from his supervisory board for jostling for vaccinations.

The supervisory board announced this in a four and a half hour meeting on Monday evening.

In addition, after his scheduled departure from office in November 2021, the port chief can no longer hope for a well-paid consultancy contract in view of the affair.

"At this point in time, the supervisory board will not approve consultancy contracts after Mr Staake's resignation as CEO in November 2021," says the supervisory board's announcement.

Staake had already been vaccinated on January 13th and February 3rd, circumventing the current prioritization.

For this he was sharply criticized by Duisburg's Lord Mayor Sören Link (SPD), among others.

"Anyone who thinks they can shorten the way to the syringe is massively damaging the already ailing trust in the population," Link had explained.

The city of Duisburg owns a third of the port company Duisport.

The other two thirds belong to the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The Chairman of the Supervisory Board is the State Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Hendrik Schulte.

The communication expressly mentions Staake's “personal misconduct”.

The supervisory board disapproves of this for moral reasons, it is said.

In the declaration, the supervisory board announced that it would soon review Staake's behavior again for possible consequences under labor law.

Staake's premature vaccination became known about three weeks ago.

After severe public criticism, he apologized.

He acted out of concern for his personal health.

"I very much regret this mistake," said the port chief in a message.

Initially, a port spokesman had justified the vaccination with Staake's numerous trips abroad in the service of the company, which was classified as systemically relevant.

In his letter, however, Staake emphasized: "Business reasons are irrelevant here."
