Kiel (dpa / lno) - In the districts of Dithmarschen, Steinburg and Pinneberg, a good 43 kilometers of roads, almost 15 kilometers of cycle paths and four bridges will be completely renovated this year.

"Our State Office for Road Construction and Transport is tackling a total of 19 roads including 8 cycle paths and is investing 44.3 million euros in a better infrastructure," said Transport Minister Bernd Buchholz (FDP), according to his house on Tuesday in Kiel at the presentation of the construction program .

A total of 22 individual projects would be implemented in the West Coast and Elbe area.

Buchholz recalled that at the end of 2018, more than 950 kilometers of state roads across the country were in urgent need of renovation.

"Arithmetically, five years ago we still had a mountain of renovation worth around one billion euros ahead of us - of which we have reduced more than a third in the last four years with a huge financial and organizational effort."

After not even 20 million euros per year had been put into maintaining the state roads in previous years, almost 100 million euros have now been reached for the fourth time in a row.

"And of all things in the pandemic year 2020 we were even able to bring a record investment of 115 million euros to the state roads," said Buchholz.

Of the 44.3 million euros that will be built in the south-west of the country this year, 20.4 million euros go to the district of Dithmarschen, 18 million to Steinburg and 5.9 million to the district of Pinneberg.

One of the largest projects in the region is the rehabilitation of the state road L147 from Meldorf to Nordhastedt over a good ten kilometers.
