Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - Unlike planned, school classes in Saarland should not fully return to face-to-face classes from April 19.

Education Minister Christine Streichert-Clivot (SPD) announced after the decision in the cabinet on Tuesday that there would be two more weeks of alternating between learning from home and lessons in the classroom.

"I will not make the change to full presence flying blind."

Against the background of "an unfortunately not sufficiently clear infection situation in the country", one does not want to take "any unnecessary risk", it was said from circles.

The return to full presence is a major concern of the minister.

However, there is currently a very diffuse infection process, the situation is very confusing after the opening steps as part of the "Saarland model", it said.

"The stability and calm in the system" that currently prevail is now more important - also with a view to the written Abitur exams, which begin on April 23.

With a return to face-to-face teaching, compulsory testing was planned at secondary schools.

In the course of the decision against full presence in schools, the coalition partner SPD criticized that the monitoring of the “Saarland model” was inadequate, it was said from circles.

The development of the situation must be closely and comprehensibly observed and assessed by experts in order to be able to make well-founded decisions.

It should not be the case that a political decision is made as to whether the traffic light in the model turns red or not - this must instead be done on the basis of professional recommendations.

In the opening model in Saarland, which is recognized nationwide, the traffic light jumped to yellow on Monday due to an incidence of over 100 on three days in a row.

There is now an extended test obligation, also in large parts of the retail trade.
