Regarding the bill to raise the retirement age of national civil servants including prosecutors to 65 years old, which was abolished in the ordinary Diet session last year, the government has stipulated that the retirement age of prosecutors can be extended up to three years if the Cabinet approves. After deleting it, it was decided by a cabinet meeting on the 13th and submitted to the Diet.

A bill to gradually raise the retirement age of national civil servants, including the prosecutor, to 65 years old was deliberated in the ordinary session of the Diet last year, but the opposition party has decided that the retirement age of the prosecutor will be up to 3 if the Cabinet approves. It was abandoned because it requested the withdrawal of the special provision that it could be extended until the year.

Regarding this bill, the government has deleted the provision that the retirement age of prosecutors can be extended if the Cabinet approves, saying that it is necessary to have staff with abundant knowledge and experience play an active role in light of the declining birthrate and aging population. After that, it was decided by the Cabinet meeting on the 13th and submitted to the Diet.

The bill delays the retirement age of national civil servants by one year from the beginning and raises the retirement age by one every two years from the 5th year of Reiwa, and introduces a "retirement age system" that excludes employees who have turned 60 in principle from managerial positions. , The salary for people aged 60 and over will be about 70% of the previous level.

In addition, it is said that prosecutors cannot be appointed as deputy public prosecutors or prosecutors after the current retirement age of 63 years old.

The government is aiming to pass a bill in the current Diet session.
