Municipal landlords raise more than private ones, and the Tenants' Association's appeal for frozen rents is not heard, according to a survey by Hem & Hyra.

According to the survey, the average increase is 1.23 percent.

The two large municipal housing companies in Kronoberg and Kalmar counties, Växjöbostäder and Kalmarhem, both raise more than that.

For tenants at Växjöbostäder, the rent is increased by 2.45 percent and for residents at Kalmarhem, the increase lands at 1.60 percent.

- We know that many tenants have lost their jobs, are laid off or go on part-time jobs and have had their income significantly reduced.

It will be strange not to take into account the socio-economic development at all, says Marie Linder, union chairman of the Tenants' Association.

Växjöbostäder has previously justified the increases by saying that they want to even out the rental levels between their homes and the private landlords.
