Seven years have passed since the so-called PFAS scandal was discovered in Kallinge and elevated levels of the substances were discovered in the municipal drinking water.

Since then, the legal rounds have been many, before the case was finally taken up in Blekinge District Court in early February this year.

Over 160 plaintiffs

In the civil court trial that took place during the spring, more than 160 Kallinge residents - the PFAS association - are suing, and the question dealt with by the district court is whether Ronneby municipality has any liability towards the victims.

The PFAS association wants the right to general damages, while the municipality believes that the right to damages should be examined individually and that the persons should be able to show a clear connection between the intake of PFAS and illness.

Judgment on Tuesday

When the verdict was handed down on Tuesday, it was clear that Ronneby Environmental Technology will compensate the plaintiffs for personal injury in the form of elevated levels of PFAS in the blood, which means increased health risks and physical changes and deteriorations of the body.
