Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt's metropolitan areas, commercial and industrial areas are becoming scarce.

"Large-scale settlements would still be possible in Halberstadt, Dessau-Roßlau or Sandersdorf-Brehna," said Economics Minister Armin Willingmann (SPD) on Tuesday.

"In Magdeburg, Halle and in the chemical triangle, however, things are getting tight."

Saxony-Anhalt has developed into an attractive location for national and international investors in recent years.

"To ensure that it stays that way and that Saxony-Anhalt continues to develop into a state of future technologies, we have to push ahead with the development of industrial and commercial areas in the next five years."

With the help of a new national company, Willingmann therefore wants to specifically develop industrial and commercial space in sought-after locations in the coming years.

The “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung” had previously reported on the plans.

The national company is supposed to support communities that lack the money for the development.

The company's task should also be "to control and take responsibility for the development of industrial areas centrally from a single source," said Willingmann.

"The aim must be that we can continue to present investors with big plans in the coming years with industrial areas that are sufficiently large and developed according to the most modern standards."
