Dresden / Kamenz (dpa / sn) - The Free State is awarding three instead of two sponsorship prizes for its Lessing Prize this year.

The cabinet decided to revise the statute in order to support more cultural workers, especially in the Corona crisis, as Minister of Culture Barbara Klepsch (CDU) said on Tuesday.

"This means that the Board of Trustees will have a certain degree of flexibility in the future, because choosing between the creative and unique proposals is really not easy."

Now the committee can split up the sponsorship awards, endowed with a total of 15,000 euros, and award up to 3 awards.

With the Lessing Prize, now endowed with 20,000 euros, every two years since 1993, promising and outstanding achievements in the spirit of the playwright Gotthold Ephraim Lessing (1729-1781) in the field of literature, literary criticism and theater have been recognized.

The Enlightenment poet and creator of the classic dramas "Nathan the Wise", "Minna von Barnhelm" and "Emilia Galotti" grew up in Kamenz, attended the princely school St. Afra in Meißen and also studied in Leipzig.
