The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) announced the election of Khaled Meshaal, the head of its former political office, as its head abroad, and Musa Abu Marzouq as his deputy.

Hamas said in a statement issued today, Monday, that the elections took place within the framework of the internal periodic elections that the movement is conducting in its various regions.

"The movement abroad managed to conduct the internal electoral process in all its locations and attendance, which produced its new Shura Council," the statement added.

The leadership of the movement appreciated the "great efforts made by the election commission, despite the complex security conditions and the unprecedented health pandemic."

Last month, Hamas re-elected Yahya Sinwar as head of the movement in the Gaza Strip, and it remains to announce the head of the movement’s political bureau so that the electoral process will be completed.
