Washington (AP) - At least one person was killed in shots at a school in Knoxville in the US state of Tennessee.

The police in Knoxville only reported that the dead man at Austin-East High School was a male.

The message also said that a police officer had been hit by at least one bullet and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No other victims are currently known.

A male suspect was arrested.

The police also said security forces had moved there over an alleged armed suspect at the school.

When they approached the suspect, shots were fired.

In the United States, there are repeated fatal firearms attacks in schools.

In February 2018, for example, a 19-year-old boy opened fire at his former school in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 people.
