  • Alsace had none until then.

A vaccine site against Covid-19 will open "at the end of May, at the beginning of June, depending on deliveries", announced the prefect of the department.

  • This mega center will be installed in the premises of the European Collectivity of Alsace, in Strasbourg.

  • Around 2,000 patients can be accommodated every day in a center managed by the fire brigade.

The Bas-Rhin will soon no longer be an isolated case.

As in many other French departments, a mega Covid-19 vaccination center will soon open.

Precisely in the premises of the European Collectivity of Alsace (CEA), in Strasbourg.

The announcement was made on Tuesday morning.

"I have just approved the place", revealed the prefect of Bas-Rhin, Josiane Chevalier, indicating that "several places" had been visited.

Before the final choice is therefore made on the 1,800 m² ground floor of the immense building located on the Place du Quartier Blanc, a stone's throw from Petite France and the Covered Bridges.

Every day of the week

This vaccinodrome will open "at the end of May, beginning of June, depending on the deliveries of vaccines," said the representative of the State.

It will be able to accommodate 2,000 patients daily and will be accessible every day of the week, at 12 noon from morning to night.

"Before that, we may have an exceptional delivery of AstraZeneca doses so we could use it a weekend," said Laure Pain of the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of the Grand-Est.

The firefighters are in any case ready.

They are the ones who have been entrusted with the management of the place, via the Territorial Fire and Rescue Service (Stis) of Bas-Rhin.

“More than 700 firefighters volunteered, including 500 to vaccinate,” explained its director, Colonel René Cellier.

Each day, 70 fire fighting places will be on site and could be accompanied by volunteers this summer.

Until the opening of the vaccinodrome, the current 22 centers open to the public for vaccination "are able to absorb vaccine deliveries", according to the representative of the ARS.

So far, just over 225,000 people have received at least one dose in the department, or about 19% of people over 18.
