A 60-year-old Chinese man was punched and verbally abused in front of a restaurant.   According to police information, the case occurred at about 10:40 pm on the 9th, in front of the Pho Vietnam restaurant on U Avenue near East 13th Street in Sheepshead Bay.

At that time, a 60-year-old man of Chinese descent was using equipment for cleaning work. A strange man approached and thought that the noise from the cleaning equipment was too loud, so he turned off the machine and quarreled with his workers.

  The suspect then used discriminatory language to insult the cleaning worker, and then slammed the victim's head with his fist, injuring his face, and the assailant fled the scene.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving the call, but the victim refused to seek medical attention.

  On the afternoon of the 12th, the reporter called the restaurant where the incident occurred. According to a Chinese staff member, the 60-year-old victim was a Chinese but not a restaurant employee. He was employed by a company that specializes in cleaning business premises.

  At present, the Hate Crimes Working Group of the Municipal Police Headquarters has intervened in the case and listed it as a possible hate crime for investigation.
