Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - CDU country chief Sven Schulze has called on the Union to make an early decision on the candidacy for chancellor.
"Today in the CDU federal executive committee I once again made the urgent request of the state association of Saxony-Anhalt clear that a quick solution should be found with regard to the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt on June 6," Schulze told the German on Monday Press agency.
"I also think it makes sense that there is an amicable solution, exclusively between Armin Laschet and Markus Söder," said Schulze.
Schulze therefore rejects the participation of third parties, such as the Union parliamentary group.
It is also important to him that “the entire family of parties from the CDU and CSU rallies behind the candidate for chancellor”.
On Monday, the top CDU bodies voted for their party chairman Armin Laschet as candidate for chancellor.
Shortly afterwards, the CSU presidium spoke out in favor of CSU boss Söder.
