Chinanews.com reported on April 12 that Korean media reported that on the 11th local time, South Korean Prime Minister Ding Shijun, who was visiting Iran, held talks with Iran’s First Vice President Eshag Jahangiri.

Ding Shijun said after the meeting that the South Korean side intends to support the progress of constructive dialogue between the countries involved in the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA).

According to reports, Ding Shijun arrived at Tehran Airport in Iran on the No. 1 Air Force plane on the afternoon of the 11th.

This is the first visit to Iran by the South Korean Prime Minister in 44 years.

Iranian Minister of Transport and Urban Development Eslamy greeted him at the airport.

Ding Shijun and Jahangiri held a joint press conference after their talks.

At the press conference that day, Jahangiri once again urged South Korea to lift the $7 billion freeze on Iranian oil exports.

Jahangiri said that in the case of the spread of the new crown epidemic, Iranian funds were frozen by South Korea, causing great losses to Iran.

In response, Ding Shijun introduced South Korea’s efforts to resolve the issue of Iranian funds freezing in South Korea, and promised to cooperate with Iran to fight the new crown epidemic and expand humanitarian trade.

Ding Shijun stated that he will jointly resolve the issue of Iranian funds being frozen in South Korea by strengthening cooperation with relevant countries including Iran.

The report pointed out that this statement was interpreted as the South Korean side may resolve the issue of Iranian funds being frozen in South Korea by persuading Britain, France, Germany and other relevant countries to provide support for the restoration of the Iran nuclear agreement.

Ding Shijun said that this visit to Iran demonstrates South Korea's willingness to develop future-oriented bilateral relations with Iran.

It is hoped that the two countries will take this as a starting point and continue to maintain high-level exchanges.

According to reports, on the 12th, Ding Shijun will successively meet with the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohamed Bagher Khalibaf and the Supreme Leader Adviser Ali Larijani.

In addition, South Korea and Iran are coordinating arrangements for the meeting between Ding Shijun and Iranian President Rouhani.
