Stuttgart / Eppingen (dpa / lsw) - The city of Eppingen (Heilbronn district) receives financial support for the corona-related postponement of the garden show.

The Ministry of Finance announced this on Monday in Stuttgart.

Because of the corona pandemic, the Eppingen municipal council decided in mid-March to open the show a year later.

This leads to a deficit of a good 1.9 million euros.

According to the financing concept that has now been agreed between the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry for Rural Areas and the municipal state associations, the state will contribute 650,000 euros.

Another 650,000 euros will be financed from a reallocation in the state budget.

These are funds from the Municipal Investment Fund, through which municipalities receive money for investments.

The garden show is the largest project in the recent history of the city of Eppingen.

A year ago, the city had given the pure budget for the around 2000 individual events in the garden show year at 1.5 million euros - in addition to the almost 15 million euros in construction and planning costs.

More than ten years of preparation and work have now gone into the event.

It was originally supposed to open on May 7th and invite visitors to Kraichgau until September 12th.

It is therefore very likely that two garden exhibitions will take place in Baden-Württemberg at the same time in the coming year.

Because the State Garden Show 2022 in Neuenburg am Rhein, south of Freiburg, is still planned.

There are state horticultural shows in Baden-Württemberg every two years.

The last venue was Lahr in 2018.

The last garden show took place in the Remstal in 2019.
