Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - A climate protection activist has been fined for a protest on the grounds of the large coal-fired power station Mannheim (GKM).

The Mannheim district court saw it as proven on Monday that the 21-year-old climbed onto the roof of a coal conveyor belt in August of last year and thus committed trespassing.

For this and because of attempted bodily harm and violation of the ban on masking, the physics student has to pay 65 daily rates of 5 euros and the court costs.

However, he can still appeal.

His defense attorney had pleaded for acquittal, the prosecutor for 100 daily rates.

The young man from Freiburg had asserted the justifying emergency for the action with a total of five participants.

It is therefore right as a citizen to oppose the destruction of the climate through the extraction and use of coal.
