Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania General Practitioner Association is pushing for a continuous and steadily increasing supply of corona vaccines to medical practices.

«Anyone who wants to achieve a quick vaccination coverage of the population should finally have confidence in family doctors and their skills as vaccination experts and support them.

The general practitioners' practices could inoculate far more doses in a short period of time than are currently available, ”said a statement from the association that was distributed on Monday.

In it, the head of the association, Stefan Zutz, warns of a setback for the vaccination campaign by general practitioners and specialists if the promised amount of Biontech cans is reduced.

In the current phase of the vaccine shortage, it is important to protect the most vulnerable people as quickly as possible and to supply the practices with sufficient vaccine from any manufacturer.

"This is the only way to ensure the vaccination of high-risk patients under the age of 60 who cannot get an Astrazeneca vaccine," the statement said.

Zutz opposed a possible "preference for the vaccination centers, which with their rigid invitation system cannot prioritize the patients individually according to their previous illnesses".

Immediately after Easter, general practitioners were included in the corona vaccination campaign across the board.

Since then, general practitioners in over 1,000 medical practices in the northeast have played their part in ensuring that “more people than ever before are vaccinated,” emphasized Zutz.

He called on the federal and state governments to keep their delivery commitments for the vaccines and not to slow down the vaccination campaign in the practices.

According to the Ministry of Health in Schwerin, medical practices in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania had received 31,000 vaccine doses from the state from the manufacturer Astrazeneca in the previous week.

In addition, there were 20,000 doses, mainly with vaccines from Biontech / Pfizer, which the federal government also provided.

According to Zutz, general practitioners and specialists in the northeast can give around 150,000 vaccinations per week, provided that enough vaccine is available.
