Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The state is now advertising on trams for new teachers in order to remedy the shortage of educators.

On Monday, a tram with advertising was sent to Schwerin on the rails.

According to the Ministry of Education, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania needs around 600 to 700 new teachers every year in order to compensate for the departure of older teachers and to be able to meet additional staffing requirements.

Since there are too few pedagogical graduates available, the need is increasingly being met with so-called side entrants.

The Ministry of Education also started a campaign on Monday to take part in the voluntary Corona self-tests with the motto “#Keep your school open”.

The education ministry announced that motifs would be made available to the schools.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is one of the few federal states in which the corona self-tests are not mandatory in schools.

They are said to be offered twice a week.

"We have enough tests in stock at the state's schools so that everyone can take part," assured Minister Bettina Martin (SPD).
