Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The CDU state chairman of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Michael Sack, is in the duel for the candidacy for chancellor at the Union behind the CDU federal chairman Armin Laschet.
"With Söder, the chances of voting are higher as things stand, so there is a lot to be said for Söder," said Sack on Monday about the competition between Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) and NRW Prime Minister Laschet.
"I think Laschet is the more suitable candidate, he does a very good job as party leader and as prime minister."
The presidium of the federal CDU had closed behind Laschet on Monday.
But there is also sympathy for Söder in the CDU, who has the better poll numbers.
On Sunday, both had made their ambitions for the Chancellery public.
