- It will be a 4.5 kilometer long stretch where cars and motorhomes are not allowed to stop.

This is so that the reindeer can pass in peace and quiet, says municipal manager Karl-Johan Ottosson in Vilhelmina.

Vildmarksvägen, which in summer allows tourists to enter Jämtland and Norway via Stekenjokk, has become an increasingly popular destination.

Last summer, 47,000 vehicles drove over the mountain.

Stressed reindeer calves

This caused problems for the reindeer industry as reindeer calves became stressed by the traffic situation.

The County Administrative Board is now investigating a stop ban to prevent a similar situation this year.

- We are very happy for our tourists, but we must ensure that there is not such a traffic situation as last year, that wires and calves are stressed when they end up on different sides of the caravan.

People should be able to drive here but not stay more than in the designated place, says Karl-Johan Ottosson.

The decision will be formally hammered out at the end of April and will take effect from when the wilderness road opens at the beginning of June this year.

According to the proposal, there would be a ban on stopping between the two car parks.
