Renthendorf (dpa / th) - The valley pilgrimage route in Thuringia is set to start its ninth season.

For pilgrims, this means: From now until the end of summer 2021, you can hike a total of 50 kilometers of different routes in the Saale-Holzland and Saale-Orla districts.

For the official start on Sunday at 1.30 p.m. in the valley pilgrimage churches of Lippersdorf, Tröbnitz, Trockenborn, Renthendorf, Untergneus (all Saale-Holzland districts) as well as in Stanau, Strößwitz and Burkersdorf (all Saale-Orla districts), devotions under the motto “Individually and yet together - connected on the valley pilgrimage », announced the Evangelical Church in Central Germany (EKM).

Afterwards, pilgrims could walk the way individually.

According to the initiator Friedbert Reinert from the Christian Association of Young People (YMCA) in Thuringia, the pilgrimage can be walked on a weekend with two nights - if the Corona conditions allow this in the future.

But day and half-day tours are also possible in sections.

In addition to the pilgrimage churches, the recommended sights include viewpoints, a nature trail, nature reserves and an animal enclosure.

According to Reinert, ten years ago the “beautiful landscape, the mostly renovated village churches and historical conditions” inspired the concept of a pilgrimage.

«Small villages, a lot of forest in a hilly landscape and interesting churches invite you to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

On a pilgrimage you can leave your thoughts behind and discover something new for your own life, ”said Reinert.
