Erfurt (dpa / th) - No queues, no crowds: the opening of the zoos and botanical gardens on the last weekend of Easter holidays in Thuringia was initially accepted cautiously.

"It is consistently such a drizzly weather, which is of course not nice for visitors," said a spokeswoman for the Erfurt zoo on Saturday afternoon.

From a total of around 1,500 day tickets for the afternoon, 711 were still bookable at noon.

After having to remain closed for months due to the corona pandemic, the Thuringian zoos resumed visitor operations on Saturday - albeit not as usual.

Tickets can be booked in advance or online.

Guests are also required to provide their contact details and, in most cases, wear an FFP2 or surgical mask throughout the visit.

"We are not angry that today are not 20 degrees," said a spokesman for the Gera zoo.

The rush is manageable - but this gives the animals the grateful opportunity to gradually get used to the visitors in front of their enclosures.

On the basis of the telephone inquiries that were received every minute, one could also guess that this could soon change.
