Fabien Roussel had expressed his desire to run in 2022. He still had to obtain the first validation, that of the PCF delegates.

It is now done.

Gathered by videoconference this Sunday, they largely voted in favor of his presidential candidacy.

Two other candidates, Emmanuel Dang Tran (activist in Paris XVth) and Grégoire Munck (Val-de-Marne) each obtained 1.97% of the vote, while 22.48% of the speakers abstained.

“

I hope that we can offer French women and men a program of hope, but also of commitments.

We will carry this program during the presidential election and I am ready to lead this fight

”, promised the national secretary of the PCF.

Fabien Roussel launches out knowing that this choice is not unanimous.

About 200 party cadres are opposed to a Communist candidacy.

And some, like Marie-George Buffet, have expressed their preference for new support for Jean-Luc Mélenchon, as in 2012 and 2017.

I ask the left forces and environmentalists to respect our choice,

" said Fabien Roussel after the vote, calling for dialogue to be maintained.

“

We are not adversaries.

We don't want to subtract anything on the left.

On the contrary: we want to add up those who today are red in their hearts, but black with anger and who abstain.

 "

Fifteen years after Marie-George Buffet, the PCF is therefore on course to participate in the next presidential election under its own colors.

The final decision, however, rests with some 50,000 party members who have until May 9 to vote.

In 2017, they spoke in favor of supporting Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
