Olympic winner Viktor Kurentsov is dead.

According to the news agency Tassi, Andrei Ivanov told about the grief news on his Instagram page.

Ivanov is the leader of the Odintsovo district in the Moscow region.

- We celebrated his 80th birthday a couple of days ago and today we received sad news.

My deepest condolences to loved ones and friends.

Long live his memory forever, Ivanov wrote on Wednesday.

Kurentsov won Olympic gold in the under-75 kg series at the 1964 Mexican Olympics. He finished silver in the same series at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

The Russian also excelled at the World Cup level.

He achieved gold in 1965, 1966, 16969 and 1970 and received silver in 1964.

According to Tass, Kurentsov set as many as 26 world records in the medium-heavy series.
