Delbrück (dpa / lnw) - The new suspected avian influenza in the Paderborn district has been confirmed.

The district announced on Saturday.

According to the Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI), as with the previous outbreaks this spring, it is the highly contagious avian influenza of the type H5N8.

Because of the suspected case, around 155,000 pullets have already been killed in Delbrück.

"According to the Avian Influenza Ordinance, animals in the disease population must be killed if there is a clear clinical suspicion," said the district in support of the reason.

As a result of the confirmation by the FLI, the already existing restricted area will be expanded.

18 other poultry holdings are affected by the stricter rules in the restricted area.

This includes, for example, that all poultry must be housed in a closed stall or under a protruding, closed protective device.

The animal disease is also called bird flu.

According to experts, it is safe for humans.

Delbrück is the fourth case this spring for the Paderborn district.

In total, over 300,000 animals have already had to be killed.
