Berlin (dpa) - The CDU chairman Armin Laschet wants to bring his party's management bodies behind his application for the Union's candidacy for chancellor this Monday.

"I will be ready for candidacy tomorrow, like Markus Söder, and ask for your trust," said North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister on Sunday evening in the ARD program "Report from Berlin".

He added: "And the party will then make a recommendation."

When asked whether the innermost leadership of the CDU would stand behind him at the Presidium's face-to-face meeting, he replied: "I don't want to speculate what the result will be."

There has already been a lot of feedback from the regional associations.

"Many state chairmen, including prime ministers, have already spoken out and supported me."

He had spoken with Söder for many hours in the past few days.

«And there is a great deal of agreement to solve that together.

That was prepared today and will continue tomorrow. "

Laschet and CSU boss Söder had declared their willingness to accept the Union's candidacy for chancellor for the first time on Sunday.

As with the CDU, the presidium of the CSU will also meet this Monday.

At the CDU, the federal board also interconnects digitally.
