Ethiopia proposes to Sudan and Egypt to exchange data for the second filling of the Renaissance Dam

The Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy of Ethiopia, Seleshi Bekele, has officially called on Egypt and Sudan to nominate dam operators to share data before the start of the second filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam during the rainy season in Ethiopia.

This came in a statement by the minister, which he published on his account on the "Facebook" social networking site, today, Saturday.

In his two letters to the ministers of water affairs in Egypt and Sudan, Bekele called on the two countries to nominate coordinating persons, or dam operators, to exchange data between the three countries regarding the second filling of the dam, which will take place from July to August.

In his two letters, the Ethiopian Minister indicated that the appointment of coordinators will accelerate the preparation of appropriate arrangements for the exchange of information and confidence-building measures between the three parties until the conclusion of the Renaissance Dam negotiations under the auspices of the African Union.

Ethiopia's call comes days after the failure of a round of negotiations between the three parties hosted by the Congolese capital, Kinshasa, with the aim of reaching an agreement on the crisis of filling the dam.

Egypt and Sudan insist on signing a legally binding agreement on filling and operating the dam, which Ethiopia rejects.
