India

exceeds the ceiling of 150 thousand infections in one day with a record number of 152,879 cases of infection and 839 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to data provided by the health authorities.

The country is at the most critical moment of the pandemic due to the number of infections in constant growth for 32 days without stopping, the majority concentrated in five states: Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala, in particular the first, the first of which minister, Uddhav Thackeray, evaluates the possibility of a total lockdown.

This data prompted the New Delhi government on Saturday to ban most public gatherings and limit entry to restaurants, theaters and public transport, limiting ceremonies such as weddings and funerals.

A special three-day emergency vaccination program has also started today in which centers will open at extended hours to vaccinate as many people as possible.

India has confirmed a total of 13.3 million cases and 169,275 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

In Germany 17,855 new cases

In Germany, 104 coronavirus deaths and 17,855 new infections have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Robert Koch Institute, which thus bring the total toll to 2,998,268 infections and 78,353 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

It was also highlighted that the incidence rate accumulated in the last seven days is 129.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, with approximately 248,000 active cases, against the incidence of 120.6 recorded on Saturday.

The total number of people healed to date in the country is 2,671,200, of which about 9,600 in the last 24 hours.

In this context, the German government yesterday presented a draft amendment to the law on protection against infections in order to be able to apply uniform measures in all regions with a high degree of contagion, in the face of the third wave of coronavirus.

In the text of the project, accessed by the Dpa agency, the German executive proposes, among other things, restrictions between 21 and 5 in the morning.

The draft was sent to the parliamentary groups of the Bundestag (lower house of the German parliament) and to the 16 federal states.

According to the draft, from a cumulative incidence in seven days of 100 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants, strict distancing rules would apply, which provide for allowing only private meetings between the members of a family with a maximum of five adults.

The ban on opening shops will also be maintained, with the exception of supermarkets, pharmacies and drugstores.

Sports practice in groups would also continue to be prohibited.

There are also mandatory covid tests for students, while schools would have to close if the incidence was greater than 200 for three consecutive days.

Pakistan Pakistan has reported 5,050 new coronavirus cases and 114 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the country's health ministry.

The number of active cases is equal to 73,875 of which 4,143 in critical conditions.

Since the start of the pandemic, Pakistan has reported 721,018 cases of Covid-19 and 15,443 deaths.

The country is vaccinating health workers and people over the age of 50.

UK and Israel towards herd immunity?

Israel may have achieved "some kind of herd immunity" and thus be able to begin easing restrictive measures further.

This was stated by expert Eran Segal, computational biologist at the Weizmann Institute of Science, one of the most prestigious research centers in the world.

Interviewed by Channel 12, Segal explained that "it is possible that Israel has achieved some sort of herd immunity and, in any case, we have a wide safety net".

"I think this makes it possible to remove some of the restrictions immediately," he added.

If the milestone is confirmed, Israel could be the first country in the world to achieve herd immunity.

The primacy is "disputed" with the United Kingdom: last week, researchers from University College London predicted in their models that Britain would achieve herd immunity on Friday 9 April, as reported by the Guardian.
