Heilbronn (dpa) - Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) has defended the state's deviation from the contact rules for the "emergency brake" once decided by the federal and state governments.

"Materially", this regulation would not change anything, he said on Saturday on the sidelines of a party conference of the Southwest Green Party in Heilbronn.

“A married couple can only visit their children alone, but they are at home together.

In a pandemic, that's not the big difference. "

In Baden-Württemberg, two households with up to five people are currently allowed to meet in regions with high incidences.

According to the “emergency brakes” agreement between the federal and state governments, however, in circles with more than 100 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants, only one household with one other person may meet in a week.

Children up to 14 years are not counted.

There could be differences in the fight against pandemics, since the incidences are also different, said Kretschmann.

"I don't share this unity madness at all."

It is important to stick together on key issues.

Small deviations played no role in the pandemic.

In view of the increasing number of new infections and increasing stress in the intensive care units, the federal and state governments should not jointly decide on new measures in the corona crisis on Monday as usual.

Instead, the Bundestag and Bundesrat are supposed to sharpen the Infection Protection Act in an urgent procedure.

The aim is to create nationwide uniform regulations for regions with high numbers of infections.

The change should be decided by the cabinet in the coming week.

Its meeting will be brought forward from Wednesday to Tuesday.
