The thing to save the season, no longer sneaks.

With one of the lowest coronavirus incidences in Spain,

barely 60 cases per 100,000 inhabitants

, just above the Valencian Community, the Balearic Government of the socialist Francina Armengol has decided to maintain, for at least two more weeks, the restrictions on bars and most demanding restaurants in the national territory.

The islands had a traffic light of five risk levels, each with its labyrinth of measures, percentages and number of members per meeting, which is now useless.

Or it works for everyone except for the restoration, given the fear of a rise in cases after Easter.

"

Fear is not a scientific criterion

", denounces the president of the small restaurateurs of Ibiza, Verónica Juan.

Ibiza and Mallorca, at level 2, are the most affected islands.

According to this level, they could open the interior of the bars, with up to six people per table, and give dinners.

But the truth is that

only 50% terraces are allowed, and they must close at five in the afternoon

.

For the Confederation of Businessmen of the Balearic Islands (CAEB), "many of them will be forced to close forever."

The spokesman for the Association of Bars and Restaurants of Ibiza (ABRE), Juan Olmo, sees it as "shameful", and accused the Balearic Government of "strangling" SMEs and family businesses.

But the Minister for the Presidency, Public Function and Equality, Mercedes Garrido, insists that "the more open the restoration, the higher the level of contagion."

Private meetings

The Balearic Islands, however, allow private meetings in homes of up to two coexistence centers, and even classes of up to ten people in gyms.

"

What is the criterion

. Is it that bad for some things, but not for others?", Denounces the businesswoman Verónica Juan.

And Olmo, from ABRE, responds: "They have made it clear that the incidence of infections does not count at the time of de-escalation, they are not health measures or to save lives,

the Balearic Government is deciding who makes money and who loses it."

The hospitality businessmen go a little further and accuse the Balearic Government and the hoteliers of trying to take over

the complementary offer

.

It is an old debate on the islands, in which the restoration denounced that the 'all inclusive' made tourists hardly leave the hotels.

At the same time, for the work of a few months, those who offered their services throughout the year were condemned, and they allowed the seasonal adjustment.

"The technical values that set the restrictions have been changed, now they

are governed by defending the interests of large companies

that live off the season at the cost of strangling those who provide service throughout the year," Olmo denounces.

Verónica Juan does not understand that if the sacrifice was to avoid an increase in infections, with perimeter closures and the few foreigners who came did so with negative PCRs, an increase in cases is now being expected.

"

Were the measures applied the correct ones, yes or no? Is this still an experiment?

", Denounces the spokesperson for the small restaurateurs.

From CAEB they also denounce that the most striking breaches that have been seen have not been in bars and restaurants, but in private homes converted into these premises, with parties of up to 170 people with private security.
