Dresden (AP) - The AfD chairman Jörg Meuthen is allowed to run again for the party chairmanship in November.

A motion to limit the term of office of members of the party executive was not put on the agenda at the AfD federal party conference in Dresden on Sunday.

After the delegates had debated the program for the Bundestag election for two days, this and other agenda items were not dealt with, with reference to the late hour.

The motion of the state executive of Saxony-Anhalt stipulated that a member of the federal executive could be re-elected directly to the same party office twice at most.

This would have blocked the way for Meuthen to run for chairman again.

The Baden-Württemberg resident has been chairman of the AfD since 2015.

In 2017 he was re-elected, at the time alongside Alexander Gauland.

Since November 2019 he has been leading the party together with the Saxon member of the Bundestag Tino Chrupalla.
