Stuttgart (AP) - Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart has prematurely extended the contract with the currently injured midfielder Orel Mangala by one year.

The new working paper of the 23-year-old Belgian now runs until June 30, 2024, as the Swabians announced on Friday.

Mangala moved from RSC Anderlecht to Stuttgart in 2017 and is a regular player and top performer at the first division promoted team.

"Orel has developed extremely positively in recent years," said VfB sports director Sven Mislintat: "We are convinced that he has all the requirements to become an absolute top player."

On Wednesday it became known that Mangala had injured his thigh again after his torn muscle fiber had just healed.

The 23-year-old will therefore not be available to VfB in the coming weeks and will also be absent against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday (6.30 p.m. / Sky).
