The federal government classifies Turkey as a high incidence area from Sunday due to the high number of corona infections.

The Federal Foreign Office justified the decision on Friday by saying that the number of new corona infections in Turkey had exceeded the threshold of 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days.

Also new on the list are Croatia, Armenia and Ukraine.

Israel, on the other hand, is no longer considered a risk area in the future - the vaccination campaign there is well advanced.

Malta will not be a high incidence area in the future, but it will still be a risk area, and the same applies to Slovakia. The classifications are made after a joint analysis and decision by the Ministry of Health, the Foreign Office and the Ministry of the Interior. Since the federal government introduced compulsory testing for all people entering Germany, the practical differences between high-incidence and high-risk areas are only marginal. Travelers from both areas have to go into quarantine for ten days after entering Germany.
