China News Service, Beijing, April 9th. The BRIC finance ministers and central bank governors video conference, and the Group of Twenty (G20) finance ministers and central bank governors video conference have been held recently.

  On April 6, the first meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors after India took over the presidency of the BRICS countries was held by video.

The meeting mainly discussed the global economic situation and response to the new crown epidemic, cooperation with the New Development Bank, infrastructure investment, customs cooperation, as well as the reform of the International Monetary Fund, financial service cooperation, information security cooperation, and BRICS bond funds.

  Liu Kun, Minister of Finance of China, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

He said that in the next five years, the New Development Bank will enter a new stage of development.

The BRICS countries should continue to work hard to complete the first batch of expansion work as soon as possible within the year, and strengthen political support and policy guidance for the New Development Bank.

The New Development Bank should adhere to its mission, build comparative advantages, continue to innovate, meet the development needs of member countries, increase international influence, and become a platform for unity and cooperation among emerging economies.

  On April 7, Italy hosted a meeting of G20 finance ministers and central bank governors in a video format.

The meeting mainly focused on the global economic situation and risks, updated the "G20 Action Plan-Supporting the Global Economy Through the New Coronary Pneumonia Crisis" (hereinafter referred to as the "G20 Action Plan"), supporting the most vulnerable economies, international taxation, green recovery and financial supervision, etc. The topics were discussed and a communiqué was issued after the meeting.

  All parties in the G20 reiterated to avoid premature withdrawal from support policies, and adopt all policy tools as needed to protect people's lives, employment and income, and use the opportunities brought by technological innovation to support the recovery of the global economy and address inequality.

All parties approved the updated "G20 Action Plan" to better coordinate and respond to current and future challenges.

  The meeting emphasized the importance of climate and environmental issues and supported the promotion of a more sustainable economic and social transformation in accordance with the Paris Agreement.

All parties welcome the progress made by the G20 "Debt Remission Initiative for the Poorest Countries" (hereinafter referred to as the Debt Relief Initiative), and support the last extension of the Debt Relief Initiative for 6 months to the end of December 2021.

The parties also discussed issues such as the general issuance of special drawing rights by the International Monetary Fund, financial supervision and inclusive finance.

  Liu Kun, who attended the meeting, said that China supports the approval of the updated G20 Action Plan and is willing to strengthen macroeconomic policy coordination with all parties to jointly promote the realization of strong, sustainable, balanced and inclusive growth in the global economy:

  ——Ensure that financing for the pandemic is fair, reasonable, diverse and inclusive.

It is necessary to respect the leadership role of the World Health Organization and encourage multilateral institutions such as the World Bank to provide more financial support.

  ——Provide support for fragile countries in accordance with the principle of joint action and fair burden.

China supports extending the debt relief period for all eligible countries to the end of 2021.

  ——China supports striving to reach a multilateral consensus plan for economic digital taxation by mid-2021.

  ——Join hands to address climate challenges.

China will actively implement the carbon peak and carbon neutral goals, and is willing to conduct exchanges and cooperation with the G20 parties on the implementation of the Paris Agreement on the basis of the principles of fairness, "common but differentiated responsibilities" and their respective capabilities, and promote Achieve green and low-carbon development globally.
