After a platform change last winter, the number of support applicants dipped, but after the turn of the year, they are on the way up again.

Usually Skogsrå is only open on weekends.

However, last year's move led to them opening up the chat for an extra day, to ease the pressure.

- We did it because there were many who stayed home during the day, either because of distance education or because they worked from home, says on-call coordinator Linn Törnlund.

She also says that when the time was extended, more people took advantage of the chat.

- We definitely felt that there was a need and we could be open more often.

If we are open, they will go there, she continues.

The first step

Skogsrå offers a chat either via a browser or their app.

They are aimed primarily at younger girls and transgender people who are aged 10-20 years.

But, they are not only for girls in Sundsvall, but anyone from all over the country can contact them.

- Some may think that it is nice not to have to contact their girls 'shelter exactly where they live, because it feels more safe and anonymous to write to a girls' shelter in another city.

If applicants apply for support where they are, however, it is easier for the on-call girls to help.

- Usually we are the first step.

Then their next question is "what should I do now, where should I go?"

Since we do not have our own psychologist, we have to refer them on to the right place, usually the youth clinic or the nearest health center.

Chat with a lawyer

They also have a lawyer who helps once a month answer questions via chat.

She is available on the first Wednesday of each month.

- She can help explain how a report is made, if it is a crime that the victim has been exposed to and so on.

Not many young girls know that.
