Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - According to the state government, the bridges on Hesse's state and federal highways are in good condition, even if ten percent are classified as “urgently in need of renovation”.

If you look at the entirety of the bridges, "it can be said that the vast majority of the structures are in a good and satisfactory condition," said Hesse's Transport Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens) in his response to a request from the FDP.

A "small proportion" of ten percent is considered to be "in urgent need of renovation", but the minister drew a satisfied balance: "Judging by the general condition of the structure and the availability of the structures, the overall condition of the Hessian bridges can be described as" good ".

The Ministry of Transport also emphasized that “urgently in need of renovation” does not automatically mean a restriction on the use of the respective bridge.

Rather, it is an indicator "for a repair measure to be aimed for in the near future".

Even comparatively simple damage could lead to a corresponding classification.

"It is crucial that all bridges open to traffic in the course of the state and federal road network ensure the stability and traffic safety", it said.
