Mönchengladbach (dpa) - Bundesliga soccer club Borussia Mönchengladbach can hope for a return of spectators this season.

The city of Mönchengladbach and the association confirmed this after the state government in North Rhine-Westphalia selected Mönchengladbach as one of the first cities as a model municipality.

The aim is a scientifically supported, coordinated and risk-minimized test operation in the theater, in the Borussia Park and in the Sparkassenpark as well as in the ice hockey arena in Krefeld.

At Borussia you are in the starting blocks.

“We would be ready, but we don't yet know the framework,” said media director Markus Aretz.

The club and the city will now work out the exact concepts for a return of the audience after April 19th.

This would mean the two home games against Arminia Bielefeld (April 25) and VfB Stuttgart (May 15) would be considered for the club.

It is currently completely unclear how many visitors could be admitted to Borussia-Park.

The people of Gladbach have already made experiences with a reduced number of spectators this season.

Fans were still allowed in the first two home games of the season against Union Berlin (10,383) and VfL Wolfsburg (300).

"I am very pleased that our concept has won over the state of North Rhine-Westphalia," said Mönchengladbach's Lord Mayor Felix Heinrichs.

“The people in Mönchengladbach are now called upon to behave particularly responsibly.

If the incidence increases, we have to stop the attempt immediately, ”emphasized the SPD politician.

The last time there were spectators in the game against Wolfsburg were in the Gladbach stadium on October 17th.
