Bremen (dpa / lni) - The government of the state of Bremen mourns Prince Philip, the deceased husband of the British Queen.

"Bremen and the United Kingdom have a long and close friendship," said Senate President Andreas Bovenschulte (SPD).

"We mourn with Queen Elizabeth II and the inhabitants of her country."

Prince Philip, who died on Friday, was a great representative of his people, said Bovenschulte.

The mayor recalled the visit of the British royal couple to Bremen in 1978.

Philip also had dynastic roots in the region in the House of Oldenburg.
