London / Brussels (dpa) - The British-Swedish pharmaceutical company Astrazeneca has partially confirmed a report in the Financial Times about a short-term delivery delay of its corona vaccine to the EU.

The latest delivery promise for the second quarter is not at risk, it said in a message on Friday evening.

"We informed the European Commission and the member states last week that one of two contingents intended for delivery this week must be tested and will be delivered soon," said a statement.

Another statement from the company said that the number of cans delivered per week could change due to the challenges in the production process.

“So far, Astrazeneca has delivered 5.8 million vaccine doses to Germany in February and March.

For the second quarter of 2021, we are on our way to delivering 70 million cans to the EU. ”

An EU spokesman did not want to comment on the status of deliveries, but said they were in contact with Astrazeneca to ensure the timely delivery of a sufficient number of cans.

He added: "We have also started a dispute settlement mechanism with the company in this regard".

It is hoped that this will enable an agreement to be reached on outstanding issues.
