Hanover (dpa / lni) - The number of charging points for electric cars in Lower Saxony almost doubled last year - the stations are particularly widespread in Wolfsburg and Hanover.

According to data from the Federal Association of Energy and Water Management (BDEW), there were still 1923 charging points in the country at the end of 2019.

In February 2021 there were already 3,783 e-charging stations (up 97 percent).

Wolfsburg, the hometown of the auto giant Volkswagen, has built a comprehensive charging network out of the ground within months.

Here the number of loading points rose from 28 to 467. Nationwide, the VW city is now in fifth place behind Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and Stuttgart.

Hanover ranks eighth in the nationwide city ranking with 278 charging points.
